Coach Yourself To a Transformational Year (A Free Guide)

Often on my website, I will offer a free download as a ‘lead magnet,’ a way to get people on my mailing list. I change the resources out fairly often and pay attention to what seems to drive people to want to hear from me more.

I try to share information that would be helpful to people who want or need a little help on their health journey, but aren’t quite ready to hire a coach or trainer yet. Then, maybe they can follow my blog and continue receiving helpful information in their inboxes. Then who knows, someday, when they are thinking about hiring a coach, they will think of me.

That’s the idea anyway.

It occurred to me, though, that sometimes these helpful resources would also be useful to the people who are already on my mailing list and have been faithfully receiving my blog posts for months or even years. Someone told me on Instagram the other week she had been following me since my ‘Running with Ollie’ blogging days! That’s more than a decade! It made me feel really good.

People who receive my blog in their email once a week aren’t likely ever looking at the home page of my website for new resources, like ever. So I decided to share my latest resource “Coach Yourself To a Transformational Year’ as a blog post to make sure everyone can get their eyes on it. There may be something here that could be very helpful.

It will ask you for your email address to download, but if you are already on my list, nothing will change for you (you won’t get the email twice).

The Story Behind This New Guide

It all started when a client asked me for help planning what a whole year of intention might look like, and I was thrilled to help her with this idea. She was motivated by the thought, “What is possible for me with intention?” and I was happy to help her start mapping out a plan, while making sure we are thoughtful about goals, expectations, and that things will likely evolve as we move through the year.

We also have a group email of amazing women, doing amazing things, that we use to encourage and help each other. I am in this group, but I am not the coach of the group. I try to offer helpful insight when it makes sense, stay out of it when someone isn’t asking to be “coached,” and ask for help and encouragement like anyone else. When my client floated the idea of a year-long plan and focus, many women in the group were intrigued, but I kept hearing the same thing repeated: “I don’t even know what I would do for a whole year.”

That idea is what birthed my latest lead magnet. What if I gave you some questions to ask yourself, some framing, and some instructions for planning a whole year? What if we weren’t making crazy, unrealistic goals, but intentional movement in the right direction for an entire year? What if we looked at it as a big experiment rather than a bunch of rigid rules to follow?

What to Expect From This Self-Coaching Resource

It’s called Coach Yourself to a Transformational Year. This isn’t a training plan or a nutrition guide. I don’t tell you what you should or should not do. I simply ask you some questions, so you think through what is important to you and what action you might take to move closer to your goals.

I know that thinking about a year-long commitment can feel overwhelming. The key thing to keep in mind is that this isn't a hard commitment, but a loose structure. It is similar to if someone was training for a marathon a year away. We would have a framework in place, but expect it to evolve over time. Over the course of a year, our priorities, schedules, and even our identities can change. Setting a strict goal for one year away reminds me of making an annual doctor's appointment when the nurse asks, "How about 10:00 AM on February 8, 2027?" Who knows what I’ll be doing then!

That is why I’ve put together this self-coaching guide to help you map out what a year of action might look like. It’s a year of experimenting, not a year of rigid rules or hard-to-keep commitments. The most important question you can ask yourself is: How do I want to feel in one year? Let that question drive your actions. When you choose habits that make you feel healthy and vibrant, the rest naturally falls into place.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Guide

  • No hard rules: These are mini-experiments. Try new actions and see what kind of difference they make in your life. If something isn't working, that's data, not failure. Adjust and keep going.

  • Start when you're busy: Surprisingly, that is the best time to try something new. If you can consistently manage a five-minute healthy habit while you're swamped, imagine how you’ll build on it when things calm down. (Things do calm down... right? Ha!). There are probably a hundred valid reasons why you might not want to do this, but in my opinion, “I want to, but I’m too busy” is not one of them. There are goals you can set that take five minutes a day. Any movement forward is progress.

  • The smaller, the better: No whole-life overhauls in one day. We’ve all been down that path enough times to know it doesn't work for long-term change.

  • Put it in writing: I recommend writing your answers on paper or typing them, rather than just thinking them through.

  • Revisit and reflect every few weeks to see what is working, what is not, and make adjustments as needed. Then of course, if you find you need help with any of this, that is what I live for!

Another reason I am offering this now is that I will be removing this particular resource from my site on June 1st because I am planning something really exciting, something I’ve never done before, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

I hope you download ‘Coach Yourself To a Transformational Year.’ Let me know if you have any questions! Download by clicking below.
